Christopher Eccleston wants to do comedy! (commented news item)

May 4, 2010, Belfast Telegraph

Former Doctor Who star Christopher Eccleston has said he will like to turn his hand to comedy - to "surprise everyone and myself". - Chris is a great actor for those dark, twisted roles that now and then pop up. I think this is a good step for him... on his and our behalf!
Christopher, who is known for taking on weighty roles in dramas as well as playing the Time Lord, - remember Jude?, he was amazing in it! It is one of the darkest roles I have ever seen. and who is starring in a John Lennon biopic for BBC4, showed his lighter side. - I can't wait to see it. I'm a big Lennon fan and when I found out CE was doing it, I couldn't believe my ears!
The actor, who has appeared in the BBC's dark comedy The League Of Gentlemen, told the Radio Times he had not worked since last year as he selects his TV roles so carefully.
He said: "I'm more slapdash about the film choices I make, whereas I choose my TV projects very carefully.
"But it's a tough time and I haven't worked since December because I'm choosy. He certainly is, but it pays off in a way, I think. His decision to leave DW pops to my mind. He wants more diversity, I guess. I'm not questioning his decision, mind you. I think that, if he was afraid to be typecast, it was better to leave than to stay and make an awful series because he was there against his will.
"I would actually like to do comedy for the rest of my life and surprise everyone and myself.
"My entire personal life has been a comedy, so I have experience." - I'm looking forward to it, then!
